The Licking County Pioneer, Historical, and Antiquarian Society was the area’s first historical society, existing until at about 1887, and meeting in the basement of the courthouse, keeping records in a secretary’s book. Much of what is known of early Licking County history comes from those records. It is unclear when this first society disbanded, but another would not emerge until September 2, 1947. |
