Reasons for Air Conditioner Failure [Buckeye Lake Ohio]

What's wrong with my air conditioner (Buckeye Lake)

Air conditioning systems are not infallible. There are a number of frequent malfunctions such as water leaks, the appearance of frost or even abnormal noises. By consulting the following article, you’ll be able to understand the reasons why your air conditioner is broken.

My air conditioner won’t start

There are several reasons for an air conditioner not starting:

  • The thermostat no longer works or its batteries need to be changed.
  • The air conditioner may no longer be supplied with house electricity.
  • The programming of the thermostat or air conditioner may need to be reviewed.
  • Circuit breaker or fuses may be faulty. (Fuses that blow too often can cause the air conditioning to trip.)

The indoor unit of the air conditioner no longer cools and or heats

  • The air conditioner air inlet and/or outlet are most likely clogged (most likely by a dirty air filter) .
  • The air conditioner may need to be reprogrammed here.
  • Doors and windows may have been left open, affecting the operation of the air conditioner.

My air conditioner is leaking and dripping

Water leaking under the home air conditioner is most likely caused by excess condensation in the unit.

  • The condensate tray may be too full.
  • The condensate drain pipe, in charge of continuously expelling water, may be clogged with dirt.
  • The drain coil may also be damaged.

My air conditioner is constantly freezing

  • The most common cause is a clogged filter .
  • The refrigerant level may also be insufficient (possible leak).
  • The installation itself may be at fault, the air flow being too low.
  • The outside temperature can also affect the operation of the air conditioner.
  • The air conditioner’s temperature controller may be set too high, at its maximum.

My air conditioner makes an unusual noise and/or smells bad

  • The air conditioner may produce abnormal noise when its motor is overheated. The device must be turned off to give it time to cool down.
  • An abnormal noise and/or odor often indicates that the filter is clogged. It must therefore be cleaned or replaced. We recommend replacing your air filter about every two months

Remember that to avoid breakdowns, it is important to maintain and clean your air conditioning system regularly. We recommend twice-yearly maintenance on your HVAC system, once in the spring, once in the fall.
