The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system installed in your home fosters an ideal environment for the growth of viruses, germs, bacteria, mold, toxins and gases that can cause respiratory illness and other health issues. The sealed heating system and ductwork is the primary collection point for recirculating air throughout the home and is the perfect location to install a whole-house indoor air purification device like the Dor-Mar CID150-1.

Infectious respiratory illnesses (such as influenza, rhinoviruses/the common cold and coronaviruses) are caused by airborne pathogens or micro-organisms. Additional foreign bodies in your furnace system can include fungus, mold, and mildew. Poor indoor air quality in your home can contribute to allergic reactions, asthma, chronic rhinitis and other respiratory illness.
Viruses, bacteria, germs and mold spores are the most common pathogens. In addition, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contribute to reduced indoor air quality. VOCs produce toxic gasses that can cause allergies and a myriad of other health problems. These toxic compounds are present in our outdoor environments, but outdoor air volume and ultraviolet light naturally emitting from the sun helps to diffuse their toxicity. The concentrated, recirculated air in our enclosed homes is another matter.
Having Dor-Mar install a Whole House In-Duct UV-C Air Purification Unit will allow you to rest easy, knowing that you are doing all you can to create a healthier air quality environment for your family. By killing airborne viruses, mold spores, fungus, and bacteria from reproducing and spreading, the UV-C light will make breathing easier. Common issues such as asthma, respiratory allergies, stuffy nose, sore throat, itchy eyes, headaches and many other symptoms are reduced by more than 99% when our UV-C unit is installed and used properly. Odors caused by cooking, smoking and pets are reduced or eliminated as well.
It’s All in the Wavelength
Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) is a UV wavelength used to help sterilize the air, reducing the spread of dangerous pathogens, bacteria, mold, and fungus.
This very technology is used in ductwork and HVAC systems by medical facilities throughout the country (and world) to help reduce the spread of contagious illnesses like influenza and other viruses, especially preventing the spread of airborne pathogens from one room to another.
Designed for residential installation into your HVAC ductwork, our unit is a self-contained system ideal for reducing or eliminating airborne pathogens associated with viruses, mold spores, mildew bacteria, yeasts, and protozoa within the duct and heating system. The unique design of our product allows our customers to reorder from one of two different UV lamp products, each with unique air cleaning / purifying capabilities.
How to Improve Indoor Air Quality
Our Whole House In-Duct Air Purification Unit can dramatically improve the quality of the air in your home. The devices use scientifically proven O3 and Ultraviolet technologies to effectively purify the air that circulates in the ductwork and throughout your home. Unlike the wavelengths that are associated with skin damage (UV-A or UV-B) the UV-C wavelength helps sterilize the air and reduce the spread of dangerous pathogens. Again, this same technology is being used throughout the country in hospitals, doctors’ offices and other medical facilities to prevent the spread of airborne pathogens such as influenza, rhinovirus, or coronavirus.
How Does UV-C Work?
The UV-C unit is installed in the ductwork near the evaporator coil (or A-Coil). As the blower motor expels air through the air handler and past the A-Coil, it is exposed to the UV-C energy produced by the bulb.
UV-C light from the bulb enters the outer membranes of viruses and bacteria and penetrates deep inside the nucleus, ultimately damaging the organisms’ genes and prevents reproduction. UV-C light targets the DNA and RNA in the pathogens, ruining reproduction and preventing spread of contagious disease. Once the UV-C light damages the inner reproductive workings of the pathogens, they can no longer survive and attack healthy tissue. Technically, the pathogens are still alive, but they are incapable of spreading disease.
Outdoors, Ultraviolet energy from the sun is used by nature to cleanse the air and inhibit the growth of micro-organisms like dangerous germs and bacteria. UV Germicidal lights have been in use for years indoors as a method to purify air in hospitals, labs, schools, nursing homes, office buildings and other commercial environments. Now, they are a popular choice to bring that same level of safety to your home to protect and purify your family’s precious health.
